PSG join race to sign Aymeric Laporte

Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly among a few clubs looking to swoop for Manchester City centre-back Aymeric Laporte this summer.

The Spain international has gradually fallen down the pecking order under the management of Pep Guardiola, and has only started in six Premier League games this season.

Laporte has been plagued by injuries, and with the arrival of Manuel Akanji from Borussia Dortmund, Guardiola has a plethora of other central defenders to choose from.

Ruben Dias, John Stones, and Nathan Ake have all been deployed in the heart of the defence, with Ake being mainly used as a left-back.

This has limited Laporte’s chances of starting even further. In March, the 28-year-old was left frustrated as he was an unused substitute on three occasions, and his only start came in a 6-0 FA Cup victory over Burnley.

Laporte’s contract with the Premier League champions is set to expire in the summer of 2025, and it is reported that he may leave the club due to his lack of game time.

Football Insider reports that Barcelona and Tottenham Hotspur are closely monitoring developments surrounding Laporte, with PSG also showing interest in the player.

City are reportedly hesitant to do business with a Premier League rival over Laporte, giving the French champions an advantage over Tottenham.

The Spain international has been with the Citizens for the last five years since joining in a £57.2m deal from Athletic Bilbao in 2018.
