Liverpool have not given up hope of signing Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez.
The Argentine was heavily linked with a move to Liverpool over the summer, despite him having only joined the Portuguese giants from River Plate in June.
The Merseyside outfit eventually brought in Arthur Melo on loan from Juventus on deadline day, but it is understood that they are still on the lookout for more additions in the middle of the pitch.
Borussia Dortmund attacker Jude Bellingham is thought to be at the top of their wishlist.
Portuguese outlet O Jogo reports that Fernandez is also still on the Reds’ radar, and that they could consider a move for the youngster at the beginning of 2022.
However, the report goes outlines that Benfica would not be willing to let him leave unless his £106m release clause is met.
Jurgen Klopp’s side would also be unwilling to pay the £106m buyout clause.
The 21-year-old made his international debut for Argentina last week, following a second-half substitute in the 3-0 friendly win over Honduras.
