Chelsea, Man City in battle for Bayern Munich defender David Alaba

Chelsea and Manchester City could reportedly slug it out over the summer for the signature of Bayern Munich defender David Alaba, according to the Daily Star.

The 28-year-old will be available on a free transfer at the end of the season, and a number of clubs across Europe are said to be interested in his signature.

The La Liga pair Barcelona and Real Madrid have been strongly linked with the Austria international, who has chipped in with two goals and two assists in 33 appearances for the Bavarians during the 2020-21 campaign.

However, the aforementioned report claims that Chelsea and Manchester City are now in a battle for the centre-back.

Alaba’s agent Pini Zahavi recently denied reports that his client has reached a verbal agreement with the Catalan giants over a switch to Camp Nou later this year.

Alaba has also previously been linked with Manchester United.
