Real Madrid to hijack Liverpool bid for Timo Werner

Real Madrid are reportedly ready to hijack Liverpool move for the RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner as they look to bring in competition for Karim Benzema, according to Marca.

Werner, 23, is widely expected to leave the Bundesliga outfit at the end of the campaign, having once again attracted interest with a sensational season which has seen him find the back of the net on 27 occasions in 33 appearances across all competitions.

Liverpool have been regarded as the favourites to sign Werner, and the striker himself did nothing to quell the speculation by heaping praise on the Reds and coach Jurgen Klopp last month.

Real Madrid could be tempted into making a move for Werner given the 23-year-old forward’s £51m release clause, which must be triggered before April.

The Premier League duo Manchester United and Chelsea have also been credited with an interest in the German, who has scored 88 goals in 147 games for Die Roten Bullen.
