Newcastle join race to sign Romelu Lukaku

Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe is reportedly eyeing a move for Chelsea’s 30-year-old forward Romelu Lukaku.

The Magpies are keen on strengthening their attack and see the Belgian as a potential leader for their frontline.

Lukaku’s summer saga involved talks of leaving Chelsea, with Inter Milan initially interested. However, a potential move to Juventus also failed to materialise, leading to a season-long loan with AS Roma under Jose Mourinho.

The Belgian striker has made a significant impact, contributing to 10 goals in 15 appearances, sparking interest from Roma for a permanent transfer.

Chelsea have out an asking price of €38 million, may face financial constraints, making a permanent move for the Belgian challenging for Roma.

Newcastle, backed by strong financial support following their takeover, could meet the asking price.

However, competition for Lukaku’s signature exists, with Saudi club Al Shabab FC expressing interest and reportedly ready to meet Chelsea’s asking price, making Lukaku one of the highest-paid players globally.
