Arsenal have reportedly placed emphasis on signing Dinamo Zagreb defender Josip Sutalo in the summer transfer window.
The Croatia international has risen through the ranks at Dinamo and has recently become a regular player for the national team, even featuring in the World Cup.
The 23-year-old is predicted to have a similar career trajectory to his compatriot, Josko Gvardiol, who left the Croatian outfit for RB Leipzig in 2021 and has since become one of the most sought-after defenders in Europe.
The Evening Standard has claimed that the Gunners are monitoring Sutalo, who is currently valued at £18m. This is significantly lower than the amount required to sign another one of the club’s defensive targets, Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace.
Guehi’s recent England call-up and lengthy contract at Selhurst Park put Crystal Palace in a strong negotiating position to demand a higher fee for the 22-year-old Englishman, who has been a regular centre-back this season.
Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta hopes to strengthen the team’s defensive options, especially since the North Londoners will be playing in the Champions League next season.
