Newcastle United have reportedly set their sights on a deal for Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot.
Calcio Mercato reports that the Frenchman is expected to leave Turin as a free agent and the Magpies have expressed interest in signing him for the upcoming season.
Rabiot is among the few valuable players who will become free agents at the end of the season, and the Old Lady are likely to regret losing him. The playmaker is having his best season since joining the Italian giants, but it appears that the club will not be able to extend his contract.
Reports indicate that Rabiot’s high wage demands have deterred potential suitors, including Arsenal, who were rumoured to have backed out of a possible deal in January. He is said to be asking for more than €10 million per season after taxes.
With only a few clubs able to meet such demands, Newcastle have emerged as a potential destination for the 27-year-old, given their financial capacity.
Despite the interest from Newcastle United, Rabiot seems to be in no hurry to decide his next move. He may take his time to evaluate the offers and could potentially wait until the end of the season.
