Didi Hamann, a former player for Liverpool, has called for the club to target Declan Rice over Jude Bellingham in their upcoming summer transfer window.
As it’s widely known, the Reds are likely to be searching for a new midfielder, with their current options showing signs of decline and the club’s underwhelming performance in the English top flight making reinforcements necessary.
As the contracts of Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and James Milner are set to expire at the end of the season, the Merseyside giants may be in need of reinforcements.
Hamann has stated that the club needs to acquire three to four new midfielders in the summer transfer window. He believes that if faced with a choice, Liverpool should prioritise signing Rice over Bellingham.
“A player I’d like to see is Declan Rice. He’s a player who can play there for the next five or six seasons, he gives stability, he’s a leader and he gives other players the freedom and the licence to get forward. If you asked me now would I buy Bellingham for £120million or Rice, who would probably be a little bit cheaper, for me it would be a no-brainer,” said Hamann, speaking to talkSPORT.
Acquiring either Rice or Bellingham is not going to come cheap, considering the current trend of football transfers, but it is clear that both players would significantly enhance Liverpool’s squad.
Regardless of which player is signed, Liverpool supporters will be eager to see a top-tier player join the club to bolster their midfield.
