Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly set to pip Chelsea to the signature of RB Leipzig centre-back Josko Gvardiol.
The 20-year-old has established himself as one of Europe’s top centre-backs since joining the Bundesliga outfit from Dinamo Zagreb in 2021.
The Croatia international ended his debut season at Leipzig with a DFB-Pokal title, as well as contributing two goals and three assists in 46 appearances from the heart of the backline.
Gvardiol has remained an integral cog of Die Roten Bullen defence in the 2022-23 campaign, racking up 19 appearances in all competitions and scoring against Real Madrid in the Champions League.
Chelsea have emerged as the frontrunners for the youngster’s signature at this moment in time, although Barcelona have also kept close tabs on the player’s situation despite their financial difficulties.
Now, Tuttomercatoweb claims that Tottenham Hotspur are contemplating hijacking any move for Gvardiol from their London rivals.
Gvardiol has made 65 appearances for Leipzig, and has played every single minute of Croatia’s World Cup 2022 campaign so far.
The centre-back has a contract with Leipzig until 2027.
