Man United hopeful of signing Frenkie de Jong
Manchester United reportedly remain undeterred in their efforts to sign Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong in this summer’s transfer window.
United boss Erik ten Hag is on the hunt for a new midfielder in the upcoming market, as both Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba are preparing to leave Old Trafford on free transfers.
Ten Hag has allegedly identified De Jong as his leading summer target, having worked with the Dutchman at Ajax.
There have been reports that Man United’s failure to qualify for next season’s Champions League will make it almost impossible for them to convince De Jong to join the club.
However, according to journalist Florian Plettenberg, the 20-time English champions are refusing to give up in their pursuit of the 25-year-old midfielder, who has more than four years left on his contract at Camp Nou.
Update De Jong: Nothing has changed. The club is still pushing for his transfer in the background. #MUFC wants him for the central midfield. But it’s still not easy to get him. @SkySportNews ??

De Jong has once again been one of Barca’s standout performers in an impressive season, contributing four goals and five assists in 46 appearances in all competitions.
Meanwhile, the Netherlands international has now represented the Blaugrana on 139 occasions since arriving from Ajax in 2019.
