Newcastle United are the frontrunner to sign Charlton Athletic striker Macauley Bonne during the January transfer window, according to talkSPORT.
The 24-year-old forward has scored six Championship goals in the second tier already with his impressive skills against the division’s toughest backlines coming in rather handy.
The aforementioned report claims that Bonne’s excellent displays have caught the eye of the Magpies, who have found the form under Steve Bruce.
It’s believed Newcastle United are leading the race for Bonne’s signature as a route to first-team football is likely to be restricted if the Ipswich-born Zimbabwe international joins Fulham or Leicester City.
The North-East side are more likely destination than the Foxes or the Cottagers with the Addicks star likely to find regular playtime a little easier at St James’ Park.
Bonne has established himself as a prolific lower league striker over the past few seasons, and indeed he could do a job very well in the Premier League.
