Man United start discussions to sign Ivan Rakitic

Manchester United have reportedly made contact with FC Barcelona over a potential deal to sign Ivan Rakitic in the January transfer window, according to Spanish outlet Sport, via Metro.

The Red Devils are keen on landing the Croatia international in January as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of the second part of the season.

The 31-year-old midfielder has barely featured for Barca this term – and the Catalan giants are now said to be ready to offload him in the new year.

The report adds that United have already registered their interest in the 2018 World Cup finalist and have opened initial discussions with the La Liga champions.

However, it’s suggested in the same report that Blaugrana will be seeking a transfer fee of at least £34m for the Croatian.

The 20-time English champions have made a dreadful start to the season and they currently sit down in 12th place in the Premier League table.
