Chelsea put £23m price tag on the Italian

Chelsea have reportedly slapped a £23 million price tag on defender Davide Zappacosta, amid interest from AS Roma.

Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard is understood to prefer Reece James as backup right-back to Cesar Azpilicueta.

According to Goal, Roma are the only club currently interested in the Italy international but are struggling to find the funds to agree a deal.

The Serie A outfit could try and sign the 27-year-old right-back on loan, but the Blues would prefer a permanent transfer.

The defender was an unused substitute on Wednesday night as Chelsea lost the UEFA Super Cup on penalties to Liverpool.

The west London outfit are still actively looking to offload players, with midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko another player who could be sold before the end of the month.
