The Serie A outfit AS Roma are reportedly still in the race to sign Toby Alderweireld from Tottenham Hotspur.
The Belgium international was available for a cut-price £25m until last week when the release clause in his contract expired.
Tottenham Hotspur are now supposedly after around £40m for the centre-back, but Gazzetta dello Sport as cited by Sky Sport suggests that the Italian club have not been put off.
Officials from Roma are set to meet with their Spurs counterparts in the coming days and could yet reach a positive conclusion.
Alderweireld, 30, recently declared that he is happy to remain with the Lilywhites, but he is unlikely to extend his current contract beyond next summer.
